Ringwood East Station

Geostone exposed aggregate and coloured concrete was specified and installed for the Ringwood East Station upgrade in 2024. This key project was delivered as part of Melbourne’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP). Designed by Aspect Studios and constructed by Laing O’Rourke, the redevelopment focused on aesthetic appeal as well as sustainable outcomes.

Geostone Phoenix Exposed was used in the pedestrian areas and landscaped zones around the station. The product was selected for its durability, visual appeal, and its environmental performance. Coloured concrete was also used for footpaths along the train line itself.

Phoenix is a white cement mix with locally sourced earthy coloured aggregates, which complemented the native landscape and colour tones of the architectural design of the station. The white cement in Phoenix enables a higher Solar Reflective Index (SRI), helping reduce the Urban Heat Island Effect and contributing to thermal comfort in the area.

Geostone Phoenix uses supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), reducing its embodied carbon, while maintaining performance and durability. The third party EPD for Phoenix can be found on the EPD Australasia website, along with EPD’s for other Geostone products.

By combining advanced concrete technology with thoughtful landscape architecture, the Ringwood East Station upgrade sets a strong example of use of Geostone decorative concrete in infrastructure developments where sustainability is a central priority.
