Noodle House

As part of a high-performance regeneration of a 100-year-old Victorian cottage in Yarraville, The Noodle House was transformed into a healthy, resilient, and energy-efficient family home designed to Passivhaus EnerPHit standards. Built on a long, narrow site measuring just 6.7 metres wide by 55 metres long, the project prioritises spatial flow, light, and natural material connections, anchored by an interior floor finish that balances aesthetic elegance with high technical performance.

Geostone’s Nova Mix polished concrete topping screed was chosen for the internal living areas and main thoroughfares. Refined through multiple trials in close collaboration with the design team, the Nova Mix features a carefully selected aggregate exposure and subtle tonal depth that creates a seamless, light-reflecting surface throughout the home. The polished decorative concrete floor grounds the light-filled rear living pavilion, drawing natural light deep into the narrow floor plan while providing a durable, low-maintenance, and tactile foundation for daily family life.

To align with the project’s strict environmental goals, the decorative topping floor was paired with Holcim’s low-carbon ECOPact concrete for the underlying structural raft slab. Together, the Geostone decorative topping screed and underlying ECOPact foundation demonstrate how high-end architectural aesthetics and sustainable concrete solutions can seamlessly unite.
