Treelight House reads as an original Edwardian from the street, but beyond its restored period facade is a thoughtful renovation by Laura Hoare, owner and principal architect of Laura Vivian Architecture, who lives there with her young family. “The ambition wasn’t to replicate the past, but to create a dialogue between old and new – where each part is clearly defined, yet sits in harmony with the other”, says Laura.
A restrained yet robust material palette, which includes polished concrete and brick, ensures enduring appeal, and a calm backdrop to suit busy family life. ‘The last thing we wanted was to feel precious about how the kids use the house,’ she says.
Geostone Calypso in a polished finish was selected for the internal floors, with its warm white tones ensuring spatial clarity, material contrast and light-filled volume. Calypso was also used in an exposed finish for the external front facing driveway.
